Anna Bella Geiger is a Brazilian multi-disciplinary artist of Jewish-Polish ancestry, and professor at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage. She works and lives in Rio de Janeiro. Her work is characterized by the use of various different medias like maps, drawings, photocopies, photographs and what not. Most of her work is like a document of the passing time, where she is noting everything, leaving nothing to chance.
Originally started as an abstractionist, she began including photographic engraving, photo-montage, assemblage, sculpture, and video. In the 1980s she concentrated on painting, and in the early 1990s on cartographic imagery cast in metal. Besides painting and engraving, her current work combines Installation art with video.
